Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both of whom were lawyers. After relocating to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor at age six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie version of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford drama instructor. After eight auditions consistently, the producer David Heyman told Emma and other applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast to play the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's screen debut came with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone's premiere in the year 2001. The film is 2001's top earning film, smashing records at the opening and the very first weekend. Critics were impressed with the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance. Emma's performance received nominations and was awarded five awards for the movie.
